As much as I absolutely love the process of giving the voices in my head something to do for the long-term, occasionally some characters only show up for a short time. Flash fiction is where I got my start in original fiction writing, and it’s where I return when those other characters start throwing temper tantrums and giving me the silent treatment.

Home (Bitter)Sweet Home
Write a story involving a character who cannot return home.
Know Justice, Know Peace
A character you have already invented gets caught by the police spray-painting some graffiti. What did they write or draw? Why?
Unmasking
Write about a character who always wears a mask (physical or metaphorical).
Forsake Me
Grab some text near you (a book, cereal box, article from your newsfeed, etc.). Randomly choose one line. Make it the first line of a story.
Campus Comforts
Your character has a favorite place they escape to whenever they feel stressed or need quality alone time. Describe this setting in 500 words including at least three of senses: smell, touch, sound, sight, or taste.
Fog of War
One of them is a soldier, the other a combat medic. They meet on a helicopter ride after being evacuated from a dangerous situation.
